About True Price
True Price is a social enterprise based in the Netherlands that tries to realize an economy in which all products have a true price. A true price is the product price in which the social and environmental costs in the value chain, such as a living wage gap and global warming, are paid for.
Analyzing the social costs of human rights impacts
True Price has contributed to the Women@Work Campaign by analyzing the social costs of human rights impacts and the business case for more sustainable business conduct.
- In 2015, True Price calculated the business case for a sustainable rose. The true price of a rose was calculated after which several interventions were assessed on their potential for improvement of the true price and its effect on the profit of a rose farm.
- In 2015, True Price made an analysis of the business case of closing the living wage gap, which included a road map and branding strategy.
- In 2018, the average living wage gap of a supermarket rose from Kenya, Ethiopia and Zambia was calculated. The results were used in the Women@Work Campaign to promote fair wages.
Now, True Price is developing CSRAfrica.com – an online platform aimed to help horticulture professionals grow a better business. It does that through the provision of data on the social performance of companies on issues such as health and safety, underpayment, harassment and freedom of association. As part of this platform, True Price compiled a library of good practices of horticulture businesses, accompanied by quantitative evidence both of the urgency and the business case for improvement.
